We practice preventative medicine such as exercising, eating healthy foods and taking vitamins, and we are both relatively healthy. Fortunately for us and many others like us, when we have had health-related problems, we are residents of Portland, Oregon. In Portland there exists a wealth of medical resources for low income families, from dentistry to chiropractics to alternative medicines. One such resource is The Coalition of Community Health Clinics, a group of 13 clinics that offer quality health care to Portland residents who are uninsured, underinsured and who would otherwise have no access to health care or necessary treatments. Most of the clinics bill patients on a sliding scale based on household income and many offer free emergency services for those who cannot afford to pay for medical care.

First off this is a book that explains many parts of our human interactions that we take for given. For example until you read this book you might not be conscious of how much your emotions and state of mind are reflected in your words while you speak. The concept of mirror neutrons is explained which basically shows how when you interact with someone they feel how you feel to a certain extent.

A really good example of how emotions have special circuitry is how in the book he mentions that a men who has working eyes but his brain cannot translate the picture that his eyes send can still see emotions! To test this they showed the man some pictures of people doing a certain emotional response and he would be able to detect what it was despite not being able to see the picture.

Mental health is to be taken very seriously, and quite arguably it is more important than our physical well-being. Because if you are not mentally stable, chances are you won’t be able to deal with the countless challenges that are part of life.
